SMS Management in MCM
Definition and Limitation
SMS message sizes are counted in segments. A segment is defined as 160 characters in Western Latin character set. For several Asian or Cyrillic languages, the segment can go down to only 60 characters as they use extended charsets. As a rule of thumb, the shorter is the SMS text the better. The max 160 characters limit includes tokens and any template characters. If the SMS message gets longer than the segment length, the SMS is split into multiple segments with a max. limit of 915 characters in total.
To calculate how many segments a certain template will take please see https://messente.com/documentation/tools/sms-length-calculator
SMS Segment Examples
SMS with Latin Character Set

The maximum message size can be 160 characters. Currently used are 93, so the SMS takes only 1 segment (=part)
This message uses this reduced character set (7 bit):

SMS with Unicode Character Set

In this example with Thai language the maximum SMS message size is 67 characters. It requires an extended character set. The number of characters used is 89, so the SMS takes 2 segments (parts).
SMS Cost
In general, markets will only need to cover local SMS number registration costs and any (monthly) fees associated with the SMS number. Pitcher will cover the send SMS cost for up to up to an agreed number of segments as per the commercial licensing contracts per rep and month. Everything beyond 100 segments will be sent as an email. MDs can track their credits (segments) under the MD Portal > More > Reports section.
